Her works span a variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, performance, film, and immersive installation. Kusama was born in the Nagano Prefecture of Japan in 1929. She traveled to the United States in 1957, showing huge paintings, soft sculptures, and environmental art employing mirrors and electric lights. In the latter 1960s, Kusama engaged in fashion design and film production.
